Un Prophète is a gripping experience from the moment 19-year-old Malik El Djebena begins his six year sentence in an adult prison. Arriving completely alone and without allies, and despite his Algerian heritage, he becomes the unlikely protegé of César Luciani, the brutal Corsican mob boss. This development disrupts the usual division of Corsicans and Muslims in the prison and sets in motion chain of events that will either destroy or utterly transform Malik.

With one of the most dramatic and gritty character arcs in crime cinema, it prompts frequent comparisons with The Godfather. In this world, a prophet is not so much born as sculpted, layer by painful layer, through the brutal and raw world around them.
