Hannah Arendt
Short url:
Margarethe von Trotta | 2012 | 113' | English subs
Hannah Arendt is one of the most important philosophers of the twentieth century. This was once again apparent after the renewed popularity of her book The Origins of Totalitarianism after the election of Trump. The biographical film Hannah Arendt focuses on her other revolutionary idea: the banality of evil. The film follows Arendt on her journey to Jerusalem in 1961 to attend the trial of former nazi Adolf Eichmann. Here she decides to write a very controversial article about the idea that ordinary people perform evil acts for banal reasons rather than being evil themselves and motivated by their ideology. Hannah Arendt is the third film in German director Margarethe von Trotta’s feminist trilogy of important female thinkers.
