Wow, what a mind-blowing flick. Imagine a movie where there is a guy in the Middle East who is a lot like Ben Laden, and he isn't seen as a devil but as a defender of his land against America, who is seen in an almost romantic light, and is portrayed by Sean Connery!

Seen today, this movie is one hell of an ideological ride! Based on a true incident that occurred in 1904, this epic is set in Morocco when Europe and America are busy trying to take over the Arab world. Their biggest resistance comes from a man they despise - a rascal called Raisuli (Sean Connery), a popular tribal leader that is being hunted down by the American government. Raisuli has kidnapped an American citizen (Candice Bergen) and her two children - an incident that causes an international storm. What unfolds is a wild adventure, but one with a perspective that would be absolutely impossible today - in other words it doesn't demonize the rebels who are fighting for their independence from the Yankees. What a cinematic hot potato this flick has become! Nothing could be more against the entire ideology of our invading Iraq, Syria, Libya, etc., than this charming flick that has been almost totally forgotten.

Here is a movie with incredible cinematography, pitch-perfect performances, a sweeping musical score and a flare for filmmaking in the grandest sense. It's almost like Lawrence of Arabia but with a more wild, controversial theme. And what is the most striking is that we can see the genesis of our present world... since today America is still trying its best to dominate the Middle East. Directed with flare by John Milius, who was principally a scriptwriter (Apocalypse Now, Dirty Harry), and despite the fact that this movie was made on a small budget, it has the sweeping feel of a grand epic. Also starring John Huston.

This will be a high-definition screening.
