Feminist Club Amsterdam Sunday Group Discussion - The Tradwife Movement

There has been growing interest in the concept of the “tradwife,” or traditional wife, a term that sparks both intrigue and controversy. Rooted in nostalgia for 1950s gender roles, trad wives embrace a lifestyle centered around homemaking, child-rearing, often with a sense of obedience and submission to their husband as a sole breadwinner. This lifestyle is not driven by economic necessity, it’s a conscious choice.

While for some the tradwife lifestyle offers fulfilment and structure, others equate it to the "manosphere" (misogynist, alt-right online content) for white women. The tradwife movement has been popularized by influencers on platforms like TikTok and continues to grow internationally.

What does the tradwife movement promise women? What values does it espouse? Who does it benefit and harm? Is it a legitimate threat to intersectional feminism? If so, what can we do about it?
