Directed by Jerzy Skolimowski
91 minutes
In English with English subtitles

Like Roman Polanski before him, Jerzy Skolimowski left Poland and washed up in England. There he actually helped Polanski out as a writer, but he also made his own films throughout the 70s. This is the first one he knocked out—a movie about teenage angst... and the painful experiences that every person has to go through in struggling between fantasy and a harsh reality.

After finishing school, 15-year-old Mike finds a job in a public bathhouse, where he meets the slightly older Susan. She's a provocative girl, and soon she invades Mike's fantasies. But in reality he finds himself molested by a much older, overweight woman (Diana Dors). Before he knows it, Mike finds himself following Sue into the seedier parts of London. A story of obsessive teenage love that is also comedic, sensitive and sometimes surreal. With music by Cat Stevens ("But I Might Die Tonight") and the Kraut rockers Can ("Mother's Sky"). The main actress Jane Asher was the lover of Paul McCartney at the time, and had been the subject of many Beatles' songs.

Here is what David Lynch said about this movie: "I don't like color movies and I can hardly think about color. It really cheapens things for me and there's never been a color movie I've freaked out over except one, this thing called Deep End, which had really great art direction."

This will be a high-definition screening.
