Cinema of the Dam'd is proud to present Women's Work, an ongoing series of recent films by emerging female directors. Tonight we watch Arwen Curry’s intimate documentary portrait of groundbreaking science fiction author Ursula K. Le Guin.

Ursula K. Le Guin took her first steps as a writer in the male-dominated literary industry of the 50s. She was then one of the very first women writing science fiction. Rebellious and determined to prove that another kind of literature was possible, Le Guin kept conjuring alternative worlds and universes before winning acclaim and a devoted readership. Arwen Curry’s directorial debut is a thoughtful reflection on LeGuin’s legacy as a world-builder and the result of an almost decade long conversation with contemporary writers such as Margaret Atwood, Neil Gaiman and China Mieville, as well as the author herself. Watch the trailer.

Directed by Arwen Curry, 2018, USA, 68 minutes. In English.
