Women's Work: A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night
Cinema of the Dam'd is proud to present Women's Work, an ongoing series of recent films by emerging female directors. In October, we look at some of the best horror films directed by women. Tonight, Ana Lily Amirpour's striking and moody debut A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014).
In the Iranian ghost town of Bad City, a lonely vampire (Sheila Vand) skateboards through the dark streets, preying upon men. When she meets sensitive and dreamy Arash (Arash Marandi), an unusual love story begins. Iranian American director Ana Lily Amirpour's remarkable debut is a stylish and hypnotic "vampire western." Shot in stark anamorphic B&W and set to the pulse of an eclectic soundtrack of Iranian rock and electro pop, the film conjures a narcotic vibe of romantic doom. Watch the trailer.
Directed by Ana Lily Amirpour, 2014, USA, 101 minutes. In Persian w/ English subtitles.
