IQMF Series of the Dam'd: David Weissman in Focus

IQMF Series of the Dam'd is a monthly collaboration between Cinema of the Dam'd and the International Queer & Migrant Film Festival.

Tonight we are proud to host an evening dedicated to the work of director David Weissman, with a screening of two of his most celebrated documentaries, We Were Here (2011) and The Cockettes (2002). David Weissman will be present for a Q&A session at the end of the screening of We Were Here and will introduce The Cockettes.

We Were Here @ 19:00

At the end of the 70s, the LGBT community in San Francisco's Castro district was flourishing. Just a few years later, the same community was battling an epidemic no one fully understood nor knew how to stop. In We Were Here, five longtime San Franciscans remember how the AIDS outbreak called into question the community's self perception and how that community managed to coalesce during the hardest of times. David Weissmann's Emmy nominated documentary is a moving testimony to how the Castro collectively rebuilt a sense of safety in the place that they loved.
