Short url:

IQMF Series of the Dam'd: David Weissman in Focus

IQMF Series of the Dam'd is a monthly collaboration between Cinema of the Dam'd and the International Queer & Migrant Film Festival.

Tonight we are proud to host an evening dedicated to the work of director David Weissman, with a screening of two of his most celebrated documentaries, We Were Here (2011) and The Cockettes (2002). David Weissman will be present for a Q&A session at the end of the screening of We Were Here and will introduce The Cockettes.

The Cockettes @ 21:00

In the late 60s, San Francisco was the place to be for gender non-conforming people. The streets were exploding with improvisational performers who took all the liberties that the sexual revolution and the counterculture had to offer. When an ensemble of free spirits put on flowery gowns and brought their impossibly campy act to the stage, The Cockettes were born. These "androgynous freaks," as one of them put it, caused a sensation. David Weissmann brings us back to the wild years of The Cockettes' and their fabulous shows, celebrating a group whose fame far outlived their short yet radiant career.

Directed by David Weissman, 2002, US, 90 minutes. In English.
