Summer Love: Grease
Passions, like temperatures, run high in the summer. But summer romances tend to burn brightly and fizzle out by the fall. Summer Love highlights some of cinema's most mercurial love stories. Tonight we watch the classic teen musical Grease (1978).
In 1958, shy Australian Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) meets cocky American "greaser" Danny (John Travolta), and sparks fly, setting off a season of summer loving. When the school year begins at Rydell High, Danny discovers that they're classmates. Will the relationship survive the semester? Combining infectious 50s nostalgia with irresistible 70s disco cheese, Grease is a timeless teen romance. The most successful movie musical of all time, the film transformed its romantic leads into megastars, while launching several iconic songs into the pop culture canon. Sing some of them at Dam'd Karaoke after the screening! Watch the trailer.
Directed by Randal Kleiser, 1978, USA, 110 minutes. In English.
