Summer Love: Call Me By Your Name

Short url:

Passions, like temperatures, run high in the summer. But summer romances tend to burn brightly and fizzle out by the fall. Summer Love highlights some of cinema's most mercurial love stories. We kick off with Luca Guadagnino's modern queer classic Call Me By Your Name (2017).

In the summer of 1983, 17-year-old Elio (Timothée Chalamet) joins his parents at their idyllic rural villa. When he meets Oliver (Armie Hammer), his father's handsome and cocky American intern, a furtive romance unfolds. Luca Guadagnino's swooning adaptation of André Aciman's coming-of-age novel captures the pleasures and pains of first love. The film's gentle eroticism, lush visual style and deeply felt performances have made it an instant classic. Watch the trailer.

Directed by Luca Guadagnino, 2017, IT/USA/BR/FR, 132 minutes. In Italian & English w/ English subtitles.
