Cinema of the Dam'd is pleased to announce a 16 week series of new work by emerging female filmmakers. Women's Work is divided into four thematic program blocks of four features each. Our Fantastic Visions block looks at the best and boldest in genre cinema. Tonight we are proud to present the Dutch premiere of Spanish actor-writer-director Ana Asensio's unnerving horror thriller Most Beautiful Island (2017).

Luciana (Ana Asensio) is an undocumented Spanish immigrant, struggling to get by on the mean streets of New York City. Fed up with nannying and odd jobs, she takes a last minute gig as a paid guest at a secret basement party for wealthy weirdos. She soon finds herself playing a dangerous game. Ana Asensio's dread-inducing debut is based on her own experiences, hustling to survive in the Big Apple. From its anxious first frames to the skin-crawling climax, Most Beautiful Island is a potent thriller about the nightmarish underbelly of the American Dream. Watch the trailer.

Directed by Ana Asensio, 2017, USA, 80 minutes. In Spanish & English w/ English subtitles.
