This Halloween season, we celebrate one of the horror genre's most loved and feared villains: the vampire. Immortal, tortured, and tragically-romantic, these fanged fiends haunt the shadows of cinema history. Tonight we pair Tony Scott's erotic 80s cult classic The Hunger (1983) with Jesús Franco's stylish and sexy vampire tale Vampyros Lesbos (1970).

The Hunger @ 19:30

John (Bowie) and Miriam (Catherine Deneuve) are bloodthirsty vampires, posing as wealthy music teachers in New York City. Although he is immortal, John discovers that he's rapidly aging, and becoming less desirable to his eternally youthful wife. He seeks the help of Sarah (Susan Sarandon) a scientist working on an experimental method to reverse ageing. But when Sarah and Miriam meet, the latter gets hungry for new blood. Tony Scott's moody erotic horror story reimagines the vampire as a ruthless serial monogamist. Though dismissed by many critics at the time of its release, The Hunger has attained a large cult following for its 80s goth aesthetics, frank depiction of bisexuality and the sheer chemistry of its three leads. Watch the trailer.

Directed by Tony Scott, 1983, UK/USA, 97 minutes. In English.

Vampyros Lesbos @ 21:30

Countess Nadine Carody (Soledad Miranda) is a lesbian vampire, who uses her striptease act in an Istanbul nightclub to lure female victims. Linda (Ewa Strömberg), a young American woman, becomes fixated on Nadine, and travels to her island hideaway. Will she be the vampire's next victim? This sexy, stylish and groundbreaking trash classic is one the best films by the prolific Spanish exploitation director Jesús Franco. The film's irresistible psychedelic score, bold colors--and bolder performances--make Vampyros Lesbos a must-see for vampire fans and queer cinema completists alike. Watch the trailer.

Directed by Jesús Franco, 1970, West Germany/Spain, 89 minutes. In German w/ English subtitles.
