In 1989, the Infoladen in the Reitschule opened its doors for the first time. At the beginning it was still called „Volxbibliothek“ and housed more than 2’500 books and an extensive archive of Bern’s movement history. In the past decades, many people had an impact on this place. And now we – a completely new collective – have taken over the Infoladen at the beginning of 2023. Looking at the world, we aim to create a space to inform, to meet and to fight together: for the freedom of all, for life, for anarchy – the end of all oppression.

We live in a world, where it’s made impossible that many different life forms coexist. Almost every corner of the world has been conquered in the course of an extensive, ongoing colonization that has its roots in Europe. Every piece of land, water, even airspace is assigned to a state that seeks to rule over it.  States are governed by the laws of capitalism, patriarchy, and White and Christian supremacy. The corresponding distribution of power allows some to accumulate excessive wealth at the expense of all.
The rich states continue to expand their military power, waging and fomenting their wars to gain access to more resources. The earth is being carelessly destroyed without regard for people, animals and plants, without regard for future life. Global warming is a side effect that brings catastrophic consequences. People who want to flee or migrate from devastated areas to rich countries are forcibly stopped or driven back, illegalized, persecuted and murdered. Those who do not accept their given role or cannot or will not meet the demands of this system experience exclusion, contempt and violence. Whoever resists has to reckon with more oppression.

We are in Switzerland, at the center of the fortress. From here, Nestlé privatizes water, numerous big corporations steal resources from all over the world, and banks store gold and money from dictatorships and fascist regimes in bunkers. UBS is largely responsible for causing financial crises, from which it itself profits, Ruag and other weapons companies produce weaponry that are used in wars around the world, every second week there is a feminicide and the cops kill people again and again, often with a racist motive.But we can choose which side of history we want to be on. We don’t want to be functioning cogs in this system, we want to be part of the resistance that started long before us and will continue long after us. We want to ask questions, find solutions and take action. We want to channel our anger and address it to the right places. There are many different ways, and if we band together, we can try to do something against the oppression.

In the Infoladen we want to create a meeting place to connect, learn from and with each other, discuss and organize. Here, you’ll find books, brochures, current information about resistant movements and actions, self-organized medicinal plant medicine, internet access and a mailbox for letters to and from prison. We want to build and strengthen structures of solidarity that can overcome borders and walls.
Many people should influence and shape this space by bringing and sharing their ideas and content, with events, or texts or whatever comes to your mind.
The space is self-organized and anti-hierarchical.
