Kasa Invisível is a house squatted by an autonomous and horizontal anticapitalist collective, since 22 march 2013, located in the downtown of Belo Horizonte – MG / Brazil.
It is an old wide house, wich can be used to host workshops, movie exibitions, courses, events. In addition, there is a small yard where you can create an urban garden, and a garage that can be made in a store, a store, a cooperative store and a space for shows.
The property has been empty for about 20 years suffering the actions of time, so the roof, the floor and some walls are damaged by infiltrations. In that time when it was left without any care, all electrical wiring and hydraulic connections were stolen. For now, it is only possible to hold meetings of some collectives and movements that do not demand much structure or fairs on the sidewalk in front of the house.
We have made weekly efforts to renovate the property and prepare it to host free and accessible projects and activities, permacultural projects and permanent workshops. We did a rainwater harvesting using one of the gutter systems, cleaned and prepared the façade for its revitalization with graphite. We use the water we collect from the rain to make cement and reform the floor and redo the gate that was destroyed in the act of occupation. But we still need to reinforce it, build a second gate, arrange the remaining infiltrations on the roof, and rebuild the structure to receive light and water.
The space takes the proposal of being a point of resistance in the center of the city, housing courses, debates, popular graphics, workshops, meetings of collectives, cinema, library, meeting space and knowledge, supportive events, urban garden. On the 27th of November, we held our first open activity with FAIR OKUPA SKINA.
It is crucial to hold a space like this in the center of one of the largest Brazilian cities during this age of crisis and new waves of right-wing movementes emerging.. There are few occupations like this in the country and none with the same structure and proposal to propagate radical and anti-authoritarian policies, all without parties or state institutions in the city. If the project consolidates, it can be the catalyst of radical struggle and experiences in the city and the region, serving as a meeting point, confabulation and information spread. In addition to being inspiration and reference to other occupations in the future. Solidarity, mutual support, exchange of experience or any financial and legal support are therefore fundamental at the outset.
We’ll post news on https://we.riseup.net/kasainvisivel , as well as photos of the house restoration process and events that happen.
