Sam Peckinpah knew he couldn't get away with calling a movie Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia, and that's exactly why he did it. He undertook this personal project while he was in self-exile in Mexico, deeply embittered by the attacks he'd received from the critics, the media, and the Hollywood establishment. His latest film Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid had just been mutilated and censored by the studio. "Bring Me the Head..." was a title that was a slap in the face to the entire Hollywood marketing industry.

Harshly criticized when it first hit the screens, this movie has now been reassessed as a sheer masterpiece - raw, shocking, poetic and brave - a project where Peckinpah confronted his own personal demons and enemies. Warren Oates (in the best role of his career) plays a gringo piano-player stuck in Mexico who hears that the mafia are willing to pay a huge bounty for the death of a guy he knows. This is a flick about uncontrolled greed and what some people are willing to do for cold cash, a journey that sends our lead character on a downward descent into hell... and it's one wild ride.

A great, wild, uncompromising film from one of cinema's true maverick directors...
