When the Zapatista National Liberation Army took over five towns and 500 ranches in southern Mexico the 1st of January of 1993, the government deployed its troops and at least 145 people died in the ensuing battle.

But Comandante Marcos knew how to play the political game by using the media circus to his advantage, using the Internet too, where the Zapatistas were able to communicate their revolutionary ideas to the world.

Since then, the community has resisted and they keep their autonomy till today.

Filmmaker Nettie Wild centers her work on social revolutions and world changes, and for this movie she traveled to the jungle canyons of southern Mexico to film the elusive and fragile life of the Zapatista rebellion.

The documentary shows the startling reality of what is like to live in contemporary Chiapas in 1998, a relatively quiet war zone. We want to screen this so that we can interpret and determine the true nature of the Zapatista National Liberation Movement and its army, the EZLN.

The screening will be followed by a group discuission. Movie and event is held in english.
