Since its beginning, the Berriozar Youth Assembly has proclaimed the need for its own space to respond to the needs of young people through self-management. We set up different paths, and the conversation we had with the City Council bore fruit: on 28 March 2015, we inaugurated the Taupada gaztetxe, a building built by the City Council through a decent employment policy and bioconstruction.
The management of the premises is, for the time being, mixed. That is, one part is managed by young people, and the other is a team of educators made up of two people. However, the two parts are not completely independent, as the ultimate goal is to manage everything young people.
Since its inauguration, the gaztetxe has been running at a fast pace and with the participation of many young people. We are organized into six working groups: the feminist group, the economy and infrastructure, sports, the environmental working group, the leisure group and the communication and counter-information working group. We hold permanent assemblies and general assemblies.
Together and with great participation, we have launched several projects in a very short period of time: we have created an orchard, we have created a batukada group, we have made furniture by reusing wood and we have created the Taupadaka fanzine, among others.
However, looking ahead, we aim to involve more young people in the project, create more teams and deepen our self-management.
