Lewisham's Housing Crisis #2: Concrete Soldiers UK film screening and discussion

Short url:

For the second of our fortnightly nights about the housing crisis at Depford's new squatted social centre, featuring films and discussions, we're relocating to 70 Deptford High Street (formerly occupied by the bookies Coral) from Pie 'n' Mash (formerly the pie and mash shop Goddard's) for a screening of the documentary film 'Concrete Soldiers UK', (2017, 75 mins), directed by Nikita Woolfe, and narrated by Andy Worthington.

The film critically examines 'regeneration' projects in Southwark and Lambeth (the Heygate, the Aylesbury, Central Hill and Cressingham Gardens), and also looks at the successful campaign to save a sheltered housing project in Streatham.

Andy will be present for the screening, and for the post-screening discussion.

Free entry. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Presently squatted

A squat in the heart of Deptford, in the South East of London. Running as an autonomous cafe, it is open regularly to the public - a rare situation in which people are welcomed to come in and participate in the squat without necessarily being "part of the crew".

Öffnungszeiten :

Officially from 12 -3pm and then again from 7 -9pm, but pretty much afternoon and evenings every day. There might be the odd time when there is no-one home, and we do need our own private time, but for the most part either ourselves or someone from the local community is downstairs hanging out.
