Info and Discussion by Anarchist Black Cross Belarus

(deutsche Übersetzung unten)

In 2020 the biggest uprising in modern history of Belarus happened in attempt to bring down the dictatorship. For months, people were struggling on the streets of different towns. The movement of hundreds of thousands shook the region with the belief that people can liberate themselves from the authoritarian regime of Alexander Lukashenko.

Anarchists also played an important role in the whole protest movement, pushing the ideas of decentralization and self-organizing. With comrades participating in weekly marches as well as organizing in the neighborhood assemblies and direct actions.

Despite all the efforts of the masses, the battle was lost. Thousands of people ended up in prison, and many of them are still waiting for the trial. Those sentenced will have to spend the next 2-15 years in prisons and penal colonies all around the country. Meanwhile, although the popular movement is gone, people continue to fight back on the small scale and preparing for the next round of confrontation.

During the event a comrade from ABC-Belarus will talk about the uprising itself, the politics of it, the role of different political players and what kind of repression was used against the population.
