The anarchist squat of Evangelismos is located in Heraklion, Crete (GR) and counts 17 years of life. It provides shelter to different initiatives of the movement (plenums, groups etc), also hosting structures of a library and other activities.
In recent years, the building infrastructure of Evangelismos has faced a series of problems, with more severe the corrosion/oxidation on the back of the building. -=- The state of the columns has deteriorated to the point that if not treated directly, it poses a serious issue of the static of the building. This problem requires a specialized building crew, with the cost of it reaching €12.500. The squat of Evangelismos will take on the labor needed itself and will also offer its whole cash-box, which contains €4.500. Evanglismos is making a call to anarchist structures and members of the movement, to take initiatives of economic support for this cause.
From Heraklion to Berlin, squats (political, housing, land) is a vital part of the struggle and are resistance and reference points of the anarchist movement. In a period during which housing becomes a luxury, rent prices are skyrocketing, state and capital unleash an unprecedented attack against our daily survival, the support and solidarity to squats is becoming more necessary than ever. We stand in solidarity to the existing structures, we re-appropriate the space that belongs to us, we set up cells of solidarity and resistance.
