1900, also known as 'Novecento' from Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci, follows Italy from the opening of a new century with its feudal system intact, through war, fascism, and the hope of an equal society.
The history unfolds through the intertwined tale of two childhood friends: one, Alfredo Berlinghieri (Robert De Niro) born to a family of wealthy landowners in Parma; the other Olmo Dalcò (Gérard Depardieu) born to peasants who work for Berlinghieri's family. After the First World War, Alfredo returns from it to find a new foreman, that is also a leading local fascist, mercyless and cruel. The emergence of fascism also triggers the rise of communism and the lives or the protagonists and their families and friends will be in conflict, as well as the country is.

The film will be screened in its original uncut version of nearly 5 hours, split in two parts of 2:40 hours, with italian audio and english subtitles.

At the end of each part, there will be a short break followed by a group discussion.
