Social Screenings: The Wobblies
This informative documentary covers the activities of the International Workers of the World, the IWW, during the first part of the 20th century as they attempted to create "One Big Union".
The nickname for members of the IWW was the "Wobblies," originating with a Chinese worker who proudly said he belonged to the "I Wobble Wobble." Information on the union's activities, including a textile strikes in Massachusetts in 1912 and Paterson, New Jersey, in 1913, is provided via interviews with elderly former union members and a look at their memorabilia, including still photographs, cartoons, posters, archival footage, and songs.
As always, the screening will be followed by a group discussion on the movie. The film will be presented in English.
