Join us for a reading and discussion with founder of the small radical press Mangal Media who is also the author of Turtle Trainer, a new sci-fi thriller set in an alternatet dystopian Turkey in 2023. It revolves around for mutant turtle brothers who have been sent to Mars on an exploration mission and their struggle to maintain their sanity in a hostile environment.

In the far-off future of 2023...
Turkey is celebrating the republic's 100th year by sending four mutant turtle brothers to explore Mars. But things are not what they seem... Raised by a dystopian state that values loyalty over all else, the confines of the space station start to merge with the limits of their consciousness. Hayret, Hiddet, Hikmet and Hürmet each respond to the harrowing mysteries on a hostile planet,  in their own ways. Will they overcome the dangers lurking among the barren ochre dunes and the explosive geysers boiling underneath their fragile space station? Or will they discover that the real danger lies within their tortured bodies and tormented souls? Brace yourselves for a journey into the depths of a dystopian terror, unlike any you have ever known...

Efe Levent is an Istanbul-based author and founder of Mangal Media. He spins colourful yarns that thread a fine line between reality and fiction in formats that appear like found objects from a parallel dimension. As a former anthropologist, Efe also writes personal essays regularly about subjects like memory, identity and the ever raging culture wars. He is currently working on a novel called Hot Air set in a post 9/11 alternate reality in which consulting anthropologists has become mandatory.

Mangal Media is an Istanbul-Based publishing platform founded in 2016 that specialises in illustrated books and online content by artists and authors from outside Europe and the US. We publish fiction and personal essays by writers who's perspectives have been pushed to the periphery of English language literature by Eurocentric gatekeeping. We want to communicate our peripheral experiences to each other across colonial borders and decolonise the language with which we talk about ourselves and our communities.
