Radical Pedagogies: Red Sunday School

MayDay Rooms presents a series of workshops exploring radical pedagogies which produce new ways of learning and activate alternative political futures. This month’s workshop will be facilitated by Red Sunday School!

Red Sunday School is a monthly socialist school for young people. We are a group of activists, educators, parents, carers and cultural workers who, inspired by the history of the Socialist Sunday School movement, aim to reestablish a similar network of schools for the 21st century. Organised on the principles of socialism and solidarity, the School provides tools and resources for the creative exploration of nature, culture and society from a radical perspective. Red Sunday School was born in 2021, since then we have run monthly sessions in Glasgow, developing a curriculum together using games, roleplay, crafts, singing and discussion to explore the great struggles of our day: anti-racism, the climate crisis, feminism, and the revolutionary transformation of capitalism.  Red Sunday School sets out to be an antidote to current mainstream education focused on producing workers ready to compete in the marketplace, regardless of the mental and physical costs to young people.

Join us for an event sharing what we’ve been doing so far, including some history of the Socialist Sunday School movement and related radical pedagogy material from the MayDay Rooms archives. For anyone interested in the movement, providing childcare for meetings or starting their own Red Sunday School.
