Launch of the Stuart Christie Memorial Archive
Short url:
Wednesday 22nd June 7 pm – 8 pm with social after @ MayDay Rooms
Join us as we celebrate the life and legacy of the Glaswegian anarchist, Stuart Christie (1946-2020), with the launch of the Stuart Christie Memorial Archive. The life of Stuart Christie was one that spanned several revolutions, prison and one of the longest criminal trials in English legal history. While Stuart’s life was curtailed by illness in the summer of 2020, he left us with an impressive political legacy. The collections attest to all that Stuart was able to squeeze in before his sudden departure. The online archive includes ephemera produced by the 1960s anti-nuclear movement, prison correspondence from Francoist Spain, an extensive collection of literature published by Cienfuegos Press, and oral testimony from Stuart’s co-defendants in the ‘Angry Brigade’ trial. There will also be physical material from the archive on display for the event.
The event will feature a discussion on the archive led by the SCMA’s core researcher and archivist, Jessica Thorne, as well as contributions from Stuart Christie’s family and comrades. Following the discussion, you’ll get the chance to look at the physical materials and interact with the online archive.
There will be a grand reveal with food & drinks to celebrate!
We anticipate a high volume of people registering for this event with limited space available. If you fail to get a ticket, please do join us for the social from 8pm onwards, in which we can increase venue capacity.
