This evening (Friday 25th) we would like to start a discussion and inform you about the current squatting situation in Amsterdam and what problems and successes we are faced with but also to share experiences with  people in London. 

Topics we would like to talk about are:

-          The macho culture and gatekeeping in the movement and how to counter this.

-          The need for a FLINTA (without cis men) squatting movement.

-          The upcoming eviction of Ivicke, a squatted mansion in the richest village of the Netherlands. 

-          The communication structures used.

-          The issue with falling into the legal framework (only squat based on what is legally possible) and the dangers of legalization / state cooption.

-          New groups in Amsterdam and the internal repression they are faced with from the 'old generation of squatters' movement.

-          The need for resisting evictions/ fighting back. 

-          Applying a diversity of tactics, not clinging on the traditional ways are embrace the creativity and spontanity of our movement.

Since the squatting ban in the Netherlands in 2010 squatting was still tolerated, but recently the state has been showing a lot of repression against squatters in a time where the material need for housing hasnt been this high since the last 50 years. In the past year there have been new groups active in Amsterdam who are reconstructing the way the squatting movement is functioning and how we can make squatting a viable option for housing.  

We’d like this evening to be more of a discussion than a talk, so feel free to join and tell us about your experiences that fits in the framework.
