Film - NI UN PIBE MENOS(eng Sub)
Short url:
On September 7th 2013, at 6 a.m., in the humble district of Zavaleta, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 50 meters from two Naval Prefecture Argentina stations, two outside gangs faced off, fighting for one vacant house.
The shooting lasts three hours, 105 shots are fired. One of these shots kills Kevin, a nine-year-old child. The national newspaper waits 8 days to report the murder.
Kevin was alive the first time I was filming in the Zavaleta district of Buenos Aires. He was sitting in a circle with his friends, in the middle of a street, blocked off and decorated for the “Children’s Day” in August 2013. At that time, I thought I would remain in Argentina for at most one month. Just the right amount to record a short survey film, for a possible promotion ofthe film by the Cinema and Human Rights’ Festival of Naples.
I never thought, while I was filming the looks of these guys and the expressions of wonder on their faces, that just a few days later, one of them, Lionel Kevin Molina, while hiding under the table of his house, would be victim of an armed clash between drug gangs and with the complicity of the State security forces. In the following few days, no media seemed to be willing to report the news. They wanted to make it invisible.
The community in Zavaleta’s neighbour together with “la Poderosa”, a villera resistance organization, gathered and decided to entrust to me the difficult task to report Kevin’s case and the abuses endured by Latin American suburbs’ neighbour. Soa survey that was supposed to last a month, became a filmic work that lasted over three years; where the sadness of an absent State has to deal with a humanitarian beauty.
