America First? – Second season of our series of conversations with comrades in the US about current struggles and organising on the ground.
The going gets tough, but there is loads of inspiring stuff happening in the US at the moment. Things we want to understand and learn from. From prison organising to struggles in the rural hinterland.
So far we’ve had inspiring conversations with Amiri about the history of race and class relations, with the crew from Sacramento about struggles in the low wage sector and with the sisters of Red Stockings about the fight against the patriarchal religious right.
The next three meetings will be:
Friday, 15th of September, 6pm: Chat with comrades of New River Workers Power about organising in trailer-parks and supermarkets in Appalachia.

Sunday, 29th of October, 6pm: Talk with Gifford from San Francisco about struggles in the Bay Area and in the logistics sector.

Friday, 24th of November, 6pm: Conversation with Dan Georgakas, co-author of the legendary “Detroit I do mind dying’ and co-editor of the IWW oral history book ‘Solidarity Forever’ about the past, present and future of workers’ struggle in the US.

Further meetings will be announced as and when – so stay tuned!
We publish short papers and reading lists for each meeting, so that, if they want, participants can prepare a bit for the discussion. We will also publish minutes of the meetings. Check out more info here:
