Public Gallery: A round table on law, art and critical witness

MDR resident Wail Qasim will host a round table discussion on the role of the ‘public’ in law and art, presenting notes from their research visits to the Old Bailey and contentious legal materials from the MDR archives. In conversation with invited speakers and audience members this evening will explore the critical possibilities of a public that isn’t passive and co-opted but made alive and disruptive through social action. Asking: What do we mean by the public? How does the public serve the law? and How does art makes the public socially engaged? this discussion will serve as a study of how to subvert public participation in the law into a culture of critical witness.
